Sunny-Ken Awoji, President of Nollywood Ambassadors International Initiative, set to debut the Nollywood Ambassadors Awards in Abuja
Belvon times had an exclusive interview today with Sunny-Ken Awoji, the President of Nollywood Ambassadors International Initiative on the Nollywood Ambassadors Awards set to debut in Abuja.
According to Awoji, there are individuals, government functionaries and organizations that have helped in various ways towards shaping the Nigerian movie industry, which is now known as Nollywood the third fastest growing movie industry in the world. Nigerians and Non-Nigerians alike, who have contributed to the rapid growth and development of the film making industry to where it is today, are our worthy Ambassadors that should be honored.
“There is no doubt Nollywood is now a global brand, and it is time to celebrate our brand Ambassadors for their immense contributions to the growth of brand that has created jobs for many Nigerians.
“Anyone across every sector, who have shown uncommon patriotism to the industry deserved to be celebrated.
“Therefore, on September 29th, at the Sheraton Hotels, Nollywood shall celebrate these worthy Ambassadors and icons of our great industry,” he said.However, he added that NAA was a step towards recognizing both practitioners and supporters of the industry alike. Basically, the industry is used to giving awards to ourselves, so it is time to look beyond self and acknowledge those who have helped us thus far.
According to Awoji, the awards cuts across over 20 categories, with recipients selected from various field of human endeavors.
He also explained that categories of the awards include Humanitarian Man/Woman of the Year, Most Supportive Organization of the Year (Private), Most supportive Foreign Organization of the year and Most Supportive Government Organization.
Others he said are: Clergy Man of the Year, Most Supportive Governor of the Year, Nollywood Most Supportive Council Chairman of the Year, Nollywood Musician of the Year and the Most Supportive Media Organization.
He said the other category of the award which seeks to honor stakeholders within the industry include Nollywood Guild President of the year, Creative writer of the year and Creative Director of the year. The Creative producer of the Year and Best Actor and Actress of the Year would also be honored among others.

Mr Ken also explained that the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) and other guilds within Nollywood were in support of the initiative and ask for prayers and good will from individuals outside the industry.
