Hosts Gombe United hold Rangers amid crowd trouble

Hosts Gombe United and Enugu Rangers drew 3-3 in a dramatic game Wednesday amid disturbing reports of crowd trouble at the match venue.

Gombe United are now 17th on the table with 23 points from 19 matches, while Rangers remain in 16th position also with 23 points but a better goals’ difference.

Former Flying Eagles star Class of 2015 Obinna Nwobodo got Rangers going in Gombe when he netted a brace.

Nwobodo opened scoring for the visitors in this re-arranged fixture after 12 minutes.

He doubled Rangers lead in the second period before Gombe rallied back amid crowd trouble to lead 3-2.

Rangers defender Etim Matthew was reportedly hit by a missile in the course of the game, an official of the visiting team was injured and the Rangers bus had to be escorted out of the stadium by the police as the home fans threatened to take the laws into their hands.

However, Osas Okoro will salvage a point for the champions deep into stoppage time.

The result further fueled uncertainty over the future of Gombe United coach Manu Garba, who has been handed a three-match ultimatum to improve the fortunes of the club or else take a walk.
